Oh, to have a screaming baby....

Yesterday Alex got his second set of shots at the health unit. Not too big of a deal, medically necessary, one of those things you do it, get it done and over with. His first trip at 2 months old wielded A LOT of crying, and many looks of betrayal as he wondered why on earth Mommy and Daddy would let someone do this to him.

This time, however, Alex didn't even flinch for the first two shots, and then just whimpered for the last one...He wasn't even cranky yesterday, just slept lots and wanted some more cuddling than usual. Today, however, was a different story.....

Alex woke up in the night like he usually does, at 4am. I fed him, cuddled him and put him back to bed. He awoke again at 6am, and since I knew he wasn't hungry, I cuddled him back to sleep and then to prevent him waking again in half an hour, brought him to bed with me (this usually doubles the times he sleeps ie if he would normally sleep for one hour, cuddling with me in bed equals two hours of sleep). He woke at 7am, on fire (not literally, just very, very hot). I didn't clue in until after he ate that he wasn't cooling down, and he started to get cranky.

I took his temperature, and he had a low grade fever (37.9 C)so I gave him some Tylenol. Then the crying started. 2 hours later, he was still inconsolable, still had a fever, and had red splotches on his legs. We called the doctor and took him in to be checked out.

Of course, as soon as we got there, he was a happy little camper. He was laughing and smiling at the doctor, people watching, having a great time. Thankfully, the doctor felt he just had a normal reaction to the immunizations, but we had to keep an eye on him all day to make sure he didn't get worse. If he did, then we were going to have to bring him back.

We brought him home, and sure enough the screaming started again. We were finally able to calm him down and get him to sleep around 1:45pm, but he would only sleep if held by Mom. So, I curled up in bed with him and we both took a 2 hour nap. Alex woke up at 4pm, a very happy boy.

Once again, another crisis diverted, but it was scary there for awhile. I'm a bit of a hypochondriac, so I always think the worse. I know everyone said being a parent isn't easy, but my heart breaks every time Alex cries to the point of losing his breath....It's like animals; they don't know any better, and you hate to see them suffer..Same thing with Alex. I'm just a sucker for my little boy! My kids are going to rule me, not the other way around ;)

Happy 4 months Alex!!

In two days Alex will be four months old! We had our 4 month check up today, and here are Alex's vitals: He weighs 15 lbs, 6 oz. he is 25.6 inches long, and has a head circumference of 17 inches. He is in the 75th percentile for height, and between the 50th and 75th percentile for weight. He is doing really well, and as soon as we buy a high chair we're starting solids!

Not much is new here...Alex spends a lot of time in his Jolly Jumper, and tummy time has pretty much gone out the window. Alex has started laughing, and has about one really good laugh once a day, which usually leaves Mom and Dad in tears because we are laughing so hard! We have been very busy these last few weeks gearing up for Jason and Jodi's wedding, and next weekend Alex will go on his very first ferry ride and trip to the Sunshine Coast for their wedding! It will also be our first trip to the Sunshine Coast as well, so it should be a nice weekend.

As soon as I have the video downloaded off the camera, I will post video of Alex in his Jolly Jumper, and playing with Ruby. I just haven't had the time for it yet.

These next two pictures represent Alex's new game--pulling his blanket up over his head. He did this once with a blanket that didn't have holes in it, so he couldn't breath-I found him only after he started freaking out, and scared the crap out of myself! Now we have a new rule..If Alex is awake, he is not allowed a blanket. When he sleeps, he usually kicks the blanket off before he wakes up so we're ok.

We went to Osoyoos for the long weekend to see my Dad's new place, and to relax a bit. We drove up in the evening so that Alex would sleep the whole way (which he did), and then did the same coming home. Alex was a complete Angel all weekend long, not to mention that he sorta put himself on a 3 hour schedule which worked out great. He didn't fuss once for naps or bedtime, and he actually started laughing, which Grandpa managed to get him to do.

We are very busy at the moment getting ready for Jason and Jodi's wedding..It is almost as much work to be in the wedding party as it is to plan your own wedding! Poor Dan is running ragged, so Alex and I have been left amuse ourselves. We finally broke down and bought a Bumbo (which Alex loves) and a free-standing Jolly Jumper. Alex gets tired pretty quick in both, but he complains while in the Bumbo, and then complains if you take him out of the Jolly Jumper.

The photos I posted are from our day trip in Osoyoos...We went to a couple wineries and spent way too much money on wine! Only ten more days until Alex is 4 months old (my how time flies!).
