Happy New Years' everyone!!
Upon reflection, this last year has definitely had it's shares of ups and downs. Unfortunately, there were mostly downs (Dan getting car-jacked, his surgery, my Gramps passing away), but we did have a few ups. Alex turned 1, and has been growing at an astonishing rate. He is learning things so fast, and I have to say that he is the coolest he has ever been, and continues to get cooler.
Another up we have had is that we found out we're expecting again about 3 weeks ago! I'm due August 15th, which is making me hope that we have a mild summer (please kill me if it's hot), but it also means I can buy all the cute summer maternity clothes that I missed out on last time!
Along with our impending arrival, we have other friends expecting as well. Ian and Colleen are expecting their second child in April to join brother Jack who will be two right around the time of the birth, and Marko and Elysia just found out they are expecting number 3 around the same time as us. We are just waiting for Jason and Jodi to announce that they are expecting their first! Hopefully that will come soon.
As lame as this is going to sound, one of my favorites days this year was going to the New Kids on the Block concert....It made me feel 10 again! They actually were pretty good, and we had a good time. My girlfriend and I spent 4 hours making a sign for the concert which then got confiscated when we got there. Apparently, the band said no signs (even though after the concert started there were ppl all over with them!). Me and Erin justified the confiscation by saying that it was just the sheer size of our sign that wasn't allowed (it took all 3 of us to hold it up, and then it was still awkward!).
I think this year we have a lot to look forward too...so here's saying to goodbye (and good riddance) to 2008, and welcome 2009!!

Quick update
We have been very busy this month!
Dan went in for gallbladder surgery on Friday, and he is doing fine. Post-op he had some breathing difficulties and went into respiratory distress, but after some oxygen and medication he was ok. Apparently, he has a very narrow trachea, and was hard to intubate.We got home at 9pm Friday night, and Dan went right to bed. I woke him every 4 hours for pain medication, and he got up with me and Alex at 6:30 in the am. His pain is well controlled with tylenol #3's in the day, and Percocet at night so he can sleep. Last night he took the bandages off (he has 4 small incisions on his belly , all about 1" long) and we saw he has staples (which we thought he would have stitches) and even though I deal with them at work all the time, I actually felt sick looking at them (only because it is my husband who has the staples, not because they make me feel sick in general). Dan is happy because he thinks it's sympathy pains!
Alex had his 18 month check up, and he is doing just fine. He is following the growth curve in all areas, and even though he only weighs 25 1/2 lbs, he is still a solid kid. He is talking away (although most of the time you don't understand him). He is almost at the stage where he is learning a new word every day--He's picked two new words in the last week. He skipped the one words stage and can make sentences already! For example, yesterday he said to Dan "okay, I go, thank you". Last week I banged my finger in front of him and said ow, and he said "you kay?" It took me a couple tries to understand him, but when I did, I was amazed. He also tells us to "sit down", can say please and thank you (although the please is rare, he always says thank you) and his new words this week were done and okay.
We are still not pregnant, but as each month goes by, we cross our fingers. Once again, we are hoping within the next few weeks to have news, but we're trying to not get our hopes up. When we know, you'll know! Dan and I have both said that if we knew Alex was going to be how he is now, we would have had our second sooner. He is a really good kid. We know for number three though! We'll definitely have out third closer than our first and second :)
We are excited for Alex's second christmas....We bought him nothing but toys for xmas--he has enough clothes. We can't wait to see his face on the big day! I have to work xmas eve, so I get home at 7:30 xmas morning..It's going to be a long day for me!
I'm going to post a couple pics of us, but if I don't post before xmas, Merry Christmas too all of you, and all the best in 2009!

A quick update..
Okay, so I know we have been going for quite some time without posting, but working full time with a toddler and keeping up the house is a lot harder than I thought.........
Alex is getting very big. We had him close to my cousin's kid who is two, and Alex was about the same size as him. He is running around like an expert now, can climb up and down on the couch on his own, can get down off the bed on his own (although he frequently forgets that there is an edge and does fall from time to time). Our current number of hospital visits for this kid is now up to 2--once for a high fever that wouldn't break, and once for a very big fall. He was in his wagon (which has wheels), rocked it, the wheels slipped out from under him, and he fell head first onto the wagon handle. He had a wagon handle bruise on his forehead for about a week.
Alex is also VERY close to talking! As scary as it sounds, he has a lot of words, he just doesn't use them consistently. He can say the following things: Mom, Dad, Nana, yes, no, ready, set, go, stop, cat, hi, what's this?, is it?, oh, please, cheese, duck, out, up touch, bad, and stop. He has also said don't touch, stop it, and where is she?. Unfortunately, I don't know if anybody else would catch what he says, because there are always a lot of "s" sounds in there too, and when asking the questions, he usually runs all the words together. Also, cheese and please sound pretty much alike, but when we ask him if he'd like cheese, then he says cheese, and when we say "say please" he'll say please (or something close to it).
We have also had some other grand events in our life this past month. Unfortunately my Grandpa passed away August 20th after a brief battle with cancer, and we'll miss him greatly. We had Alex at the hospital twice, and 2 weeks ago I had Dan in ER with chest pain that turned out to be his gallbladder. Now we are waiting for the ultrasound and meeting with the surgeon to see if Dan needs surgery. Ruby was very sick for the last week, and it seemed that either Dan. Alex or Ruby was needing pain meds, a poopy diaper (or kennel) cleaned up (Dan wasn't in this group) plus I was taking care of people at work all day long! I have been working more than full time due to staff shortages, and I think we all really need a vacation!
We did take Alex to the PNE and will post pics from that. We learned very fast that he was too young to go! It was a very short day there, especially for what it cost (does anybody else remember when it only cost $6 to get into the PNE?). It definitely wasn't worth it.
Oh and last, but not least, next week it will be official: Dan and I will be trying for another baby! (I think we're both nuts!). Anyways, you'll know more when I know more! TTYL!

First Hair Cut
Ok, so I had to finally break down and get Alex a hair cut. A real hair cut, not some hack job by his Mom ;) You know it's time when you're cutting food out of his bangs because they are so long. We took him to Magicuts this weekend, and here is how it looked!
Here is the before photo--His hair looks like some really bad 80's hairdo that was once all the rage but when people look back at photos, they go "What was I thinking !?!?!?!?!?!"
Alex did really well...He fought us a little bit, but there was no crying or anything. He really enjoyed the attention!
By the end of the hair cut, we needed reinforcements--He just wouldn't sit still!
The finished product! Such a handsome boy :)
In other news, Alex has cut his second set of molars, so now he is up to 12 teeth! Only 10 more to go! Also, I was looking through my photos on this batch of downloads, and found this pic, which I think, is way too cute!
This is Alex with Grandpa on Grandpa's bike. Earlier he was in the driver's seat, but I think he looks better on the back of a bike rather than driving it!

New Teeth!
I was playing with Alex today, and his new favorite game is to be flipped upside down. I thought I saw something and upon further inspection I saw that Alex has his first set of molars! He cut two at a time (like he has with all his teeth), and you can see half of the tooth on the left side, and the right side is just starting to come out. I noticed about 2 weeks ago that he wasn't eating anything except bananas and strawberries, but I thought it was just a phase thing...Turns out it was because he gums were to sore! Other than the not eating thing, Alex hardly fussed at all over these teeth coming in. I just keep telling myself--by this time next year, no more teething!

Such a long time...
I now, I know.....It's been awhile....
Here are the goods: Alex is now 13 months old, and changing every day. Right now we aren't sure who he looks like more, since one moment you can look at him and he looks like me, the net he looks like Dan. No new teeth yet, just the 4 on the bottom, and 4 on top. Alex is still walking up a storm, but we have noticed over the last month that he is slowing down--not because there is something wrong, but we tend to wonder where he is when everything is quiet, and you wonder what he is up to because he could never be so quiet, only to find that he's sitting in the living room reading his book! He's also gotten a lot more cuddly again...He'll sit with me on the couch and watch TV in the morning, and he'll sit with Dan in the evening and play, read or again, watch TV. It's kind of nice because now he is cuddling with us because he wants to, not because he has no choice in the matter.
Alex is also completely off formula now.I was trying the whole mixing 1/2 and 1/2 then slowly adding more milk and less formula, and what finally made the change was that it was payday, we were out of formula, and I just didn't buy any more. So, it's Homo milk now! We also had made some great progress with cutting out bottles, with Alex only having 2 a day, then something happened and he completely refuses to use a sippy cup for his milk. So, we're back to about 4 bottles a day of milk (only 4 oz mind you), and starting tonight, he only gets water in his bottle at bed time. It actually worked out well, because today was bloody hot here, so I could leave the bottle in his crib for later if he woke up thirsty (and I remind you that the bottle only has WATER in it, so all off you scoffing at my parenting for leaving a bottle in the bed, it's ok--the dentist even said so).
Alex is pretty much sleeping through the night now. We have only maybe one or two nights a week where he wakes in the night, but I expect it still since he is still waiting for some teeth to come in. Unfortunately, we aren't getting any extra sleep, because Alex usually wakes up for the day around 5:30 or 6:00am.I have actually let him cry back to sleep and left him until 7 on a few mornings because I was too tired to get up. I also noticed that the last 2 days, he's cried around 4:30-5. but ut himself back to sleep until about 6:45 in the morning. Much easier to get up at that time....
My mom is being a brave soul and is taking Alex for 2 nights in August, so Dan and I can have some time to ourselves...I want to go and do something, but I have a feeling we're just going to do stuff around the house and get caught up (I know, boring!). Work is going well but we always seem to be in some level of unrest because there seems to be a lot of people quitting again. We have a new rotation starting in September, and a lot of people are not happy with it, so we'll see what happens.
As some of you know, I am going to be an Auntie! My brother's girlfriend Carrie is due December 25th of all days. I am very excited! They have an ultrasound on Aug. 1st, and are planning to find out the sex of the baby, so I'll know ahead of time and can start shopping early! We are all anxious for the ultrasound because Carrie had a previous high risk pregnancy that resulted in a still born, so she is high risk again this time. Please everyone pray for my little niece or nephew!

Alex's first birthday and trip to Crescent Beach
It is hard to believe, but my little baby has turned one! It really has been the most amazing year, and probably one of the best of my life. I took Alex for his check up, and he currently weighs 21 lbs and 8 oz. He is 33" long, and has a head circumference of 19.5". Compared to birth, Alex has really grown into his head! As most of you have seen, Alex is walking up a storm, as well as talking non-stop. He clearly says "Mama", "Dada", and "Nana", as well as sit, which isn't always understandable, and usually sounds like "shit".
I have been back to work for 2 months now, and aside from getting someone fired, it's going pretty good. I seem to have finally proven my worth, and so people have stopped giving me a hard time there. I think too, I just stopped caring, and so i started doing better. Alex continues to love daycare, and he usually is miserable everyday when we bring him home. Up until the day before his birthday, Alex was still getting up once in the night; since then, he has slept through the night for the last 5 nights! I'm so excited, although he does still find it necessary to wake up at 5:15am everyday...That part is annoying!
I have posted some video from our day at Crescent Beach, which Alex loved, and some pictures and video from his birthday. All in all, his party went off without a hitch, except that I got all emotional when i read his card from us and started crying...My poor child, his mother is a head case!

Happy 11 month Birthday Alex!
Today marks Alex's 11 month birthday! We have had an interesting month.....We have been sick off and on, and just as recently as the weekend, were diagnosed with bronchitis! Alex was given nebulizers, and Dan and I are on puffers. For all of you with kids, hope you never have to rent a nebulizer machine. It cost $100, then another $60 for medication. I will be so happy when my extended benefits kick in next month!
Alex is walking up a storm, but him walking also means some pretty nasty falls. We had the french doors in our living room open, and Alex fell right into the corner, giving himself a very big welt, then a very black eye. He also has a perma bruise on the middle of his forehead, just because he keeps falling and hitting that part over and over. I am sure one day it will clear up!
I have also sent out the invites for Alex's birthday. Amazing, but it will be in one month! It seems like just yesterday we were anxiously hoping to be induced early, then anxiously waiting because I wasn't, and then finally Alex came to us! At each stage of the game we have always said that this stage was our favorite, but the last 4 months have really been our favorite stage. Watching Alex grow and learn and explore is really cool, and while I'm sure I'll be cursing him at the time, I can't wait for all those "why" questions, and being able to teach him all the things I know about the world!
I also just wanted to pass on a tip for moms of teething babies....I bought some frozen french toast from Superstore. It's their mini chef brand, and it's like an eggo waffle. you put it in the toaster, and voila! french toast! Alex hates eating them when they are toasted, but I give them to him frozen and they help his teething pain so much! So, if you just can't find relief from teething pain, give them a frozen eggo or something to chew on....It works like a hot dam!

Just some fun...
I thought I would post a good video of Alex walking, as well as some fun pictures we took. The video was taken about 1 week after he started walking, so about 2 weeks ago. We are doing well here..we still have this horrible cough, but for the most part we are over our sicknesses.
Alex is getting big, and I can't believe in just a week I will be sending out the invites for his first birthday! Time goes by so fast......I miss his small days, but have to say that he has been the coolest over the last 3 or 4 months with all that he has learned. He is even listening to instructions now. If you tell him not to do something, he will stop (for the most part), or if you ask him to come into the living room he will etc. He also knows when he's doing something he's not supposed too...He likes to take the batteries out of the remote and eat them, and we'll go to take them away from him and he'll run away! He also high tails it when we try to wipe his nose........I've never seen a kid move so fast before!

Alex walking
Ok, I that posted that Alex had taken his first steps.........Well, this last weekend he decided that he was going to walk and there was no stopping him!
We were all home very sick with colds/maybe strep throat/stomach flu stuff, and so I was able to get those first few awkward movements on video. Since this weekend, Alex walks everywhere. He only crawls when he wants to get somewhere fast, or if he;s really tired. He did this all, right on his 10 month birthday! It's quite scary; he's getting into everything very, very fast now. We desperately need to put all the latches on the cupboards, because he is now playing with all my baking supplies, the blender, and any food he can pull out of the cupboard!
So, here is the video of him walking. When i get a better one, I will post that as well. He's growing up so fast!
I should also mention that I am having a harder time adjusting to being back at work than Alex is. My new job is going ok, but I've been there a week, and already been in trouble twice :( Minor stuff really, but I didn't do it on purpose either. Also, I am almost settled with my human rights complaint. A more appropriate offer is on the table, and we are working on it. I'm hoping to have this done by monday, so that I don't have to go to Vancouver on Tuesday!
We were all home very sick with colds/maybe strep throat/stomach flu stuff, and so I was able to get those first few awkward movements on video. Since this weekend, Alex walks everywhere. He only crawls when he wants to get somewhere fast, or if he;s really tired. He did this all, right on his 10 month birthday! It's quite scary; he's getting into everything very, very fast now. We desperately need to put all the latches on the cupboards, because he is now playing with all my baking supplies, the blender, and any food he can pull out of the cupboard!
So, here is the video of him walking. When i get a better one, I will post that as well. He's growing up so fast!
I should also mention that I am having a harder time adjusting to being back at work than Alex is. My new job is going ok, but I've been there a week, and already been in trouble twice :( Minor stuff really, but I didn't do it on purpose either. Alex takes his first steps
Today marked the beginning of a new era........Alex started daycare, I go back to work tomorrow, and Alex took his first steps.
Yep, you read right. His first steps.
He was in the kitchen with Dan and took one step towards him. We thought we were imagining things, so we spent the next 30 minutes trying to get him to do it again. After a few falls, Alex took an independent step. Then, when we tried again, he took two, and after some more tries he took three independent steps all on his own. He got tired and wouldn't do it for us anymore, but I'm hoping that I'll get it on camera in the next few days. Once I do, you know it will be posted here.
I've had a pretty emotional day. My baby is growing up! I was watching some of the video we have of him at 4 months old....So precious! I still say becoming a parent is the best thing I ever did :)

An apology
I have to apologize......I know I promised videos and pictures, but we've had some issues on our end. First of all, iPhoto would not load on our computer, so we could not download the photos. It has taken Dan some time to figure out the problem, but he did find it, and we're downloading as I write. Second of all, I've been on a grand search for a daycare, since I knew I was going to have to be back to work soon. This has taken some time, since I wanted to go and check them all out before making a choice. Thirdly, i have been looking for work, since the offers my employer had for me were not that great. I have found a job about 10 minutes from home, which is casual to start off with, but permanent positions are coming up, so I'm hoping to get one of those.
As for the daycare, we found a daycare about 10 minutes away as well. It is a lady who has been running a daycare for 20 years, has 3 kids of her own and 3 grandkids. her one daughter helps with the daycare, and her other daughter will do night time babysitting if we need it. She charges $30/day, but she will take the kids on teddy bear picnics, go to the park down the street, take the little kids for a walk to pick the big kids up from school, go to the pumpkin patch at halloween, and she also decorates a float for the christmas parade every year, and the kids help with that as well. She will keep Alex until he is in school, and if we know we will have another kid on the way, she will save a spot in the daycare for us. She sounded great, the house was great, and Alex just loved being there. I won't even get into the other places I went, because they were aweful.
I go back to work on Tuesday, which was a bit earlier than I thought I would be going back (I don't have to be back until April 13th), but it's worth it to have work that is so close to home. I am actually looking forward to being back.....I may be crazy, but I do enjoy my job, and I have missed it to a certain extent. However, I won't be able to wait to go off again!
We are otherwise doing well on the home front. Alex has said his third word, which is Nana, and I'm sure all 3 of his grandmas will be happy about that. Our friends Ian, Colleen and Jack are moving this week to Edmonton, and so we are going to miss them. Alex really enjoyed spending time with Jack, I had a blast talking scrapbooking with Colleen (she's the one that got me hooked on Stampin Up), and Dan and Ian are old friends that enjoyed football every year.
Well, I'm gong to check on the photos, and hope to have some up tonight. If not, I will for sure do it tomorrow while Alex is in daycare!

The hearing
I know you all have been probably reading and waiting for how my hearing went. Well, I'll start by saying we're not done yet, and therefore I can not reveal too many things. Also, I will not be identifying my employer, nor talking about specifics in mediation, just because we're not allowed to, and because this is a public website, I could get in major shit if I did this and they found out.
So......................
On Monday we presented our side of the case. In this instance, the decision will be based mostly on credibility, since it is a he said/she said type of issue.So, it is my job as the complainant to prove that they actually did what I say they did. I made two very good points during my testimony which probably helped a lot. One being that is I was qualified to cover the position in the short term (short term being anywhere from days to months), then why wasn't I qualified to take over long term? Their argument was that I wasn't qualified for the position, and therefore I should not expect the job. The other point was that they tried to prove that I quit because if I couldn't have the manager's job, then I didn't want any job. I told them I quit because I could not work for someone who would discriminate against me. I wasn't asked why I quit anymore after that. They started to present their case right at the end of the day, and so we were going to continue on Tuesday. My lawyer said that we were doing good at this point.
The other thing I should mention is that they tried to have the entire hearing suspended because one of their witnesses could not be there due to knee surgery. Of course we said no, and the tribunal agreed.
On Tuesday, I got to the tribunal and was told that a settlement offer had been made. Again, i can't say how much, but it was a joke. So, the hearing was adjourned, and we went back into mediation mode. Now, for those of you who don't know, we've been trying to mediate this for over a year. My former employer has not made any effort to settle, or even to entertain the idea. All of a sudden, she wants to settle. So we make a modest offer, given the fact that I lost wages and will continue to lose wages should I not be able to fine full time work, plus damages. The number was no where near where it should of been, but we were trying to be reasonable. After 5 hours, my former employer had only been willing to double their original offer, which as you recall was a joke. They wanted to negotiate at $200 increments, meaning we would have been there all day. My lawyer said we were finished and that we'll take our chances at hearing.
There is risk with the hearing. If I win, it is a published decision that will forever haunt the employer, and they have to pay whatever money the tribunal decides is appropriate. If I lose, it is a published decision that future employers could see and assume that I am just a trouble maker. Also, If I lose, there will be the emotional and mental issues of basically being told that this all did not happen, and that I'm making it all up. Either way, one of us is going to have egg on our face. Having said that, I have been aware of that risk since day one, and am not afraid of going back to hearing mode. I feel we are doing well, and I don't know how well the other side will hold up in cross examination.
I also thought I would mention...For those unaware, this hearing is a legal proceeding. Before taking the stand, we are asked to tell the whole truth, nothing but the truth and give understanding that lying is an offense and punishable under the law. So, this not some flimsy meeting, it's serious stuff.I frankly am tired of this whole thing...We could have had this settled a long time ago, but we're being dragged through this for what seems like forever. I'll be glad when we're done. Our next hearing date is April 1st (of all days). I'll let everyone know what happens, although it will simply be an either "I won" or "I lost" type of post. I will be required to sign a non-disclosure regarding the settlement and so I can not publish that info. Uggggghhhhhh.....One more month to wait!

Doing better...
Alex is doing much better since yesterday. He hasn't thrown up once (lucky me) but he still has diarrhea about once a day. He has A LOT more energy, and is constantly moving. He is even going for naps late, since he has so much energy! Today he should have gone for a nap at 9:30, but it is now 10:45 and there is no end in sight! I'm going to try and put him down again once I'm done here.
Also, for those who don't know, my big human rights hearing is tomorrow. I'm starting to get nervous..I'm not a big fan of confrontation, and this is a big confrontation! I think I am more upset over the fact that I have to get up at 4:30 in the morning to get ready for this thing....Only because we need to stop in Langley on our way to Vancouver to drop Alex off at my mom's. I think I am mass cleaning today just to relieve some stress. Oh, I guess I should mention that this is my "coffee break" from cleaning. Laundry is at an all time high because Alex has been going through so many clothes (me too) this last week, and I find that keeping myself busy keeps me from thinking about tomorrow. I started doing this when I was pregnant. I couldn't drink to relieve stress, so I cleaned. Works good for both me and the house!
I will post again after my hearing...Of course I'll let you all know how it goes!

Quick Update..
So Alex is still sick...He can keep small amounts of food down, but only about 1 Tbsp. at a time. The doctor thinks it might be a bladder infection, but we will not know for sure until the lab results come in. I have spent the last two days putting pee bags on Alex, and scooping poop out of diapers. Not fun. Last night he was awake every 45 minutes. I got about an hour of sleep. We're barely functioning, yet I can't seem to take a nap--too much to do.
We did get Alex weighed and measured while at the doctor on Wed. He is now 29 1/4" long, and weighs 19lbs 12oz. His weight is a little bit of a concern, since he has only gained 1/2 a lb. in 2 months, and only 1 1/2 lbs in 3 months. He has dropped below the 50th percentile for weight, which is where he was before. The doctor said it could just simply be because he's been sick, and we'll check again at 12 months. If he continues to fall on the weight percentile chart, then we'll need to figure out why he's not gaining weight like he should.
I have my Human Rights hearing on Monday, and so I've been spending a lot of time at the lawyer's office as well this week. We'll see how it goes, they think they've got some tricks up their sleeves, but they are wrong. I'm going to enjoy sticking it to the man! I will post on how things go on Tuesday after we are finished.

Happy 9 months Alex!
Our last month has been quite a busy one! We have a lot of excitement (if that is what you want to call it) around our house!
Alex hasn't done too much new this month, although he is very close to walking....He can now stand on his own without any support for about 30 seconds to sometimes longer than a minute. He has tried to take steps, but that has usually resulted in him falling forward. He has also started trying to get to a standing postion from the crawling position without pulling himself up on something.
Currently, Alex is quite sick. Yesterday around 3am we awoke to a blood curdling scream from Alex's room. Both Dan and I rushed in to find that he had vomitted all over his bed. We got him up, cleaned and I gave hima bottle to go back to bed, but about 10 minutes after he was finished, he vomitted everything up. We have spent most of the days since then cleaning vomit or diarrhea (which he also has) and cuddling. Alex had this happen at christmas time, and it turned out he was teething, but last time he did not have a fever (which he does now) and he was still his vibrant self (which he is definitely not right now). Alex spends most of the day cuddling with me on the couch or asleep in his crib. Last night, I spent from about 3am until 830am when Alex woke up with him in the rocking chair, since that is the only way he would sleep. Boy was my butt numb when I got up!
Aside from that, all is well. As per usual, I just haven't had time to download all the pics from the camera yet, but I hope to do that by the end of the week. I will post them when I get a chance!

A good reason to move.....
So if you haven't heard yet,last night Dan got held at knifepoint and car jacked. You will have to talk to him for all the juicy details, but this is the gist of it:
Dan when to our local Greek restaurant to pick up our dinner. He parked in the back parking lot, and as he was walking to the restaurant a guy walked up to him, grabbed his shirt, pulled out a knife and demanded that Dan drive him to Coquitlam. Dan of course said no, and the guy held the knife to Dan's neck and told him that if he didn't do it, he was going to stab Dan. Dan dropped the keys on the ground and told the guy to take the car. The guy kept telling Dan to drive him, but Dan said "look I've got kids. You've got the keys, take the car. What do you need me for?".
The guy bent down and picked up the keys, let Dan go, and tried to get into the car. When he couldn't find the key, he started yelling at Dan and coming after him again. Dan told him which key, but when he got the door open, the car alarm went off (if you don't use the key chain to unlock the doors the alarm sounds). This gave Dan enough time to run into the restaurant. The guy drove away and Dan called the cops.
One thing I forgot to mention is that the entire time this was happening, a taxi driver was in the parking lot watching. He had a cell phone in hi hand, and when Dan asked to be let into the car because the guy was trying to kill him, the taxi driver wouldn't do it.Then, later in the night when both Dan and the taxi driver were at the police station ID'ing the guy, the taxi driver gave Dan a ride home AND CHARGED HIM FOR IT. Taxi driver's suck.
So Dan phoned me once he phoned the cops, and I realized (once Dan was ok) that our car seat was in the back of the car, as was my wallet, and all of Alex's ID, our passports, the clicker for the garage door and my house keys were on the keychain too. I had to put my house in full lock down, had my Mom come over to stay with me, and I walked around with a very big hammer just in case.
But here's the kicker--it wasn't my car he took, it was a courtesy car from the dealership! My car was in being fixed (it broke down last week) so I had a loner. The idiot stole a car that was silver with Murray Pontiac Buick in big blue stickers all over it, the car number on it (14), and with a baby seat in it. How easy would it be to find? Not that hard! Also, the moron told Dan he was going to dump the car at the bus loop in Coquitlam!
So Dan did not get any sleep last night, I got drunk off my ass and ended up getting sick, and now we are dealing with the aftermath today. As if I don't have enough to deal with!
They caught the guy, and got the car back. The car was damaged (although I don't know how much) and the guy still had the bloody knife with him. They won't let us take our stuff though, until they do a finger print search on the car. So, for now, I can't go anywhere with Alex because I have no car seat. This is a huge pain in the butt!

Overwhelmed..........
I've been thinking quite a bit the last week, especially since I received bad news from 2 people. First, A women that I worked with committed suicide on the weekend, and then an acquaintance from high school found out that his wife lost their twins. I have never known anybody who committed suicide before, and of course miscarriage is the most horrific thing ever (at least I think it would be---I can't even imagine).
On top of all this, I am overloaded with things to do right now--Painting the house, looking for daycare, wondering about my work situation, terrified about my hearing in 2 weeks, and just keeping up with life basically. I feel pretty overwhelmed at the moment. I know that if I take things just one day at a time, that it will all work out, but I return to work in just 6 short weeks, I keep getting injured at the gym so painting is taking longer than expected, and I don't even want to think about daycare.
I plan to start looking for daycare next week, so that we have a good month to ensure that Alex has settled and won't flip out when he's there. it should be interesting, since he won't eat for anybody but me, go to sleep for anybody but me, and generally freaks whenever I leave the house.
Time seems to be flying by so fast...Alex is getting so big, and I have to be honest---the thought of returning to work, Alex turning one etc is making my clock tick again. Scary, I know. How on earth could I handle two babies if I'm struggling with just one? I also know deep down that back in the day you only got 3 months mat leave, and kids turned out just fine, and that there were tons of parents (mine included) who worked when they could and raised 2 or more kids no problem (ok maybe a little bit of a struggle, but it all worked out).
As for my hearing, I'm stickin' it to the man, so I'm excited and scared all at the same time...We'll see how that goes.
Anyways, i just wanted to get this out there..Dan truly believes that once you write something down, it isn't a problem any more. We'll see if he's right;)

I plan to start looking for daycare next week, so that we have a good month to ensure that Alex has settled and won't flip out when he's there. it should be interesting, since he won't eat for anybody but me, go to sleep for anybody but me, and generally freaks whenever I leave the house.
Time seems to be flying by so fast...Alex is getting so big, and I have to be honest---the thought of returning to work, Alex turning one etc is making my clock tick again. Scary, I know. How on earth could I handle two babies if I'm struggling with just one? I also know deep down that back in the day you only got 3 months mat leave, and kids turned out just fine, and that there were tons of parents (mine included) who worked when they could and raised 2 or more kids no problem (ok maybe a little bit of a struggle, but it all worked out).
As for my hearing, I'm stickin' it to the man, so I'm excited and scared all at the same time...We'll see how that goes.
Anyways, i just wanted to get this out there..Dan truly believes that once you write something down, it isn't a problem any more. We'll see if he's right;)

Ok, so I didn't get them up by the end of the weekend....We started repainting the inside of our house on Saturday, then got Superbowl fever yesterday...........

Two new things...........
We have 2 new things to report in Alex's wonderful life...........He has learned how to clap, and he's getting 2 more teeth in!
About 2 days ago he was playing in the living room and pulled himself up on the couch. I was saying "yaaaaayyyyy" while clapping my hands, and he sat down on the ground and started clapping himself! I do have a video of it, but of course, I need to find a time when Dan is not on his computer so that I can download it and post it.
As for his teeth, he will have 6 teeth pretty shortly...He got his bottom 2 front teeth literally one day after he turned 6 months old, then his top 2 front teethe cut through about 3 weeks ago at about 7 1/2 months old, and no here he is almost 8 1/2 months old, and the teeth on either side of his top teeth are coming in! I noticed them today after listening to Alex suck on his lip all day..it was getting annoying, so I checked out his mouth to see if he had a sore or something, and there they were, with just the corners poking through........
No wonder he chews everything he can get his hands on! I'll post those videos by the end of the weekend I promise!

Happy 8 months Alex!
Alex turned eight months old on Tuesday, and what a month it has been! In the last month Alex started crawling, pushing himself to a sitting position from his stomach, pulling himself up on anything, saying Momma, and he got his top two teeth in!
Time has flown since christmas, and the good news is that after Alex's bought with diarrhea, he has gained all the weight back he lost and then some, weighing 19 lbs, 9 oz about a week and a half ago. Although, one precedence I hope we don't continue to follow is that of Alex getting a cold after every new set of teeth..........He has been sick since Monday, and this cold is bad enough we had to break out the Vick's vapo rub, the humidifier, and elevate one end of his bed with phone books. When his bottom teeth came in, he had a cold but it really was nothing more than a runny nose. This cold has him up asll night coughing, which also keeps me awake all night too :(
We also received our invitation to Maryn's first birthday party, which is very exciting! It is hard to believe it has already been a year, and I know that when Alex turns one i will be amazed as well. I personally can't believe that I have to return to work in about 8 weeks time either! For those of you who don't know, I found out last week that I don't have a job to go back to, but I went for an interview at a nursing school and they hired me on the spot! Hopefully this will work out. I seem to have absolutely no luck when it comes to employers ;)
