The Kubbs: December 2007

Congratulations to Lynn and Jason Wagenaar, who welcomed their new baby boy, Benjamin Andrew Wagenaar, December 27th, 2007 at 11:15pm! The wee little guy weighed a whopping 10 lbs 7 oz, and was delivered au natural after 13 hours of labor with nothing for pain except laughing gas. Although, the poor girl tore so bad it took over 45 minutes to stitch her up :(

While I am very happy for the lucky parents, I have to reiterate my hatred for all people able to push these huge kids out naturally, and my kid got stuck! I don't really hate everyone, but I feel a little gipped, when when everyone I know with kids except for Colleen has done it naturally, with nothing for pain. I SWEAR that if Alex hadn't been in distress, and I was allowed to move around during labor, and was able to sit up while pushing instead of lying on my side, it is entirely possible that I could have delivered Alex naturally. But, since the little bugger (I mean angel) decided to lie on his umbilical cord, it was a different story.

I guess we'll try again for the next one.....Enough complaining and feeling sorry for myself, Congratulations guys! I know he'll be adorable!

Alex is now 7 months old, and little has changed for him....He has two teeth now, which the first came in one day after his 6 month birthday, and the second came 2 days later! his teething has been causing many sleepless nights in our house :( When i took Alex in for his immunizations, he had lost a bit of weight, but it looks like he is gaining again--He was 17 lbs 12 oz when he had his shots (a loss of 5 oz), and was 18 lbs 3 oz about a week ago.

I have started trying to increase the texture of Alex's food, but he is REALLY resistant...Last night I gave him Turkey Stew that was minced (small pieces, nit pureed), and he choked, gagged, and eventually threw up his entire dinner. Regurgitated food is GROSS! I have told him that he is just going to have to learn to like it, because he can't eat pureed food his whole life. I make myself feel better by remembering that he did the same thing when I first gave him rice cereal, and eventually he got used to it and moved on.

Alex (and I) survived his first cold ever this last month as well...Alex actually did pretty good--just a cough and the occasional snotty nose. He hates having his face wiped though, so that was the only unbearable part. Lucky me, I got the cold after him, and I am still sick after 10 days...I think I got it worse out of everyone in the house!

Alex has also started talking, with his first word being "da-da". He says it pretty much all the time..Here is a video of him talking (it's a little long, just wait for the big guns though!)

We are excited about our first christmas with Alex...We have already spent about $200 on presents for him! Although, about $150 of it was on clothes, which he needs desperately. Alex is getting so spoiled this year, that I think if next christmas is going to be like this, then we'll just buy him one gift.

We are also anxiously awaiting the arrival of Jason and Lynn's baby...She is due Jan 1st, and I think I'm a sure win for their baby pool! We send out a wish for a relatively painless, speedy labor (like that will ever happen! and if it does, I am sooooooooo jealous!). Good Luck guys!
